The name of my blog is "Drexciya". The name refers to a myth comparable to Plato's myth of Atlantis, which Electro Musicians Drexciya revealed in the sleeve notes to their 1997 album "The Quest". "Drexciya" was an underwater country populated by the unborn children of pregnant African women thrown off of slave ships that had adapted to breathe underwater in their mother's wombs.
Quite a vivid image for me. Living in San Francisco, California for 5 years has led me to wish that the souls of African slaves thrown overboard on slave ships would somehow come back to correct the wrongs of modern American society, which largely, and sadly, remains a racist place.
Drexciya was an electronic music band from Detroit, Michigan. The late James Stinson was the only officially identified member of Drexciya, but it was considered an open secret that he had a musical partner, Gerald Donald. Sadly, James died in 2002.
They made amazing , excellent beats in the style known as Electro. I love their Philosophy and their music.
Check out this video of one of their tracks (in the Ambient Electro style):

It is not a real Drexciya video, rather a fan video made out of still images of the band and some of their 12" vinyl sleeves.
This is my first Blog post. Inspired by people like Richard Dawkins, Sasha Baron Cohen, Jason Bermas and Jon Stewart, I feel like sharing my mind with the world. I will try to make this blog TRULY diverse, covering philosophy and politics as well as music, film and culture.
First, I would like to initiate a debate on the recently released book "The God Delusion" by renowned British author Richard Dawkins. Please join me in this discussion.
